During the conference call with investors yesterday, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon dismissed the idea that AEW are their biggest competition and that the tide is turning in professional wrestling.
McMahon said that their biggest challenge was WCW when Ted Turner and the Turner organizations threw everything at them, calling it a different situation than what they have today with All Elite Wrestling.
“I really don’t know what their plans are. All I know is what our plans are,” McMahon said. “I don’t consider them competition in the way that I would consider WCW back in the day, not anywhere close to that.”
WWE President Nick Khan then intervened and said that he considers WWE as being a horse with blinders on in a horse race, considering everything that is on television as competition. “We don’t look at any organization particularly as competition. Yet we see everything as competitive with what we’re trying to do in terms of eyeballs,” he continued.
