Mini tournament to be held to determine new #1 contender for NXT title

To determine the new number one contender for the NXT title, four matches will be held with the winner of each match then entering in a fatal 4-way match. The winner of that match will then face the new NXT champion Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover: San Antonio on the eve of the Royal Rumble.

The matches that will start next week on NXT include Eric Young vs Tye Dillinger, Roderick Strong vs Elias Samson, No Way Jose vs Andrade “Cien” Almas, and Bobby Roode vs Oney Lorcan. Samoa Joe is completely out of the title picture now after spending most of the year carrying it.

Joe lost the title to Nakamura during last week’s non-televised live event in Osaka, Japan, a match which was featured on NXT last night.
