Minute Maid Park in Houston to host the 2020 Royal Rumble

Another baseball stadium will be hosting next year’s Royal Rumble as the Houston Chronicle reported that the Minute Maid Park in Houston will play host to the 2020 Royal Rumble.

Minute Maid Park is the home of the MLB’s Houston Astros and has a retractable roof. It was built in 2000 and has a seating of just over 40,000. In its 19-year history, the Minute Maid Park only hosted one non-baseball sporting event, which was a soccer match in 2006. Several concerts have been held at the location as well.

“We had a wonderful experience at Chase Field, and that underscored our excitement with the decision to place the 2020 Royal Rumble at Minute Maid Park,” WWE executive vice president of special events John Saboor said. “We want to expose the WWE brand and its events to as many people as possible, and the size of facilities in which we present our major events is a key catalyst.”

Houston has not hosted a Royal Rumble since 1989, the first one to be held on pay-per-view at The Summit. That event was won by Big John Studd.
