NXT Women’s Tag Team titles introduced…and champs lose titles in first match

WWE introduced the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles on last night’s broadcast with the titles awarded to Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez as the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament.

Kai and Gonzalez were screwed out of the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles last week after Adam Pearce assigned a Raw referee to call the match when the original NXT referee got knocked out in the match. Shayna Baszler tapped out Dakota Kai and the ref rang for the bell but Kai was not the legal woman in the ring and Gonzalez was so the match should have never been called.

Their celebration and title reign last night ended super quick as later in the broadcast, Kai and Gonzalez had to defend their titles against Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon and the faces won the match after Blackheart pinned Kai, winning the titles in the process.

With this win, Ember Moon is now the only woman in NXT to hold the NXT Woman’s title and the NXT Women’s Tag Team title.

The NXT Women’s Tag Team title is the fifth one for the brand following the NXT title, NXT Women’s title, NXT Men’s Tag Team titles, and the North American title.
