One title change and two title controversies at Extreme Rules

Extreme Rules saw one title change and two other title matches which ended in a somewhat controversial manner.

There are new Smackdown Tag Team champions in town as Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura finally beat The New Day in a tables match. This is Cesaro’s second run with the Smackdown straps and Nakamura’s first time as a tag team title holder. The New Day ended their sixth title run with the blue titles.

The Raw Women’s title ended with Bayley hitting the three count to award the match to her tag team partner Sasha Banks. Just a few seconds earlier, Asuka spit green mist at Banks but Banks ducked and the referee ended up green-faced instead. Bayley then hit Asuka with one of the Women’s Tag Team titles, put on the referee’s shirt and Banks covered Asuka for the pinfall. The two fled with all the titles after Bayley forced the timekeeper the ring the bell.

And the United States title was also in the news as MVP declared himself the new U.S. champion. Apollo Crews did not wrestle as he was not cleared to compete due to an injury he suffered. MVP, the former three-time champ, then said he’s now the champ due to forfeit.
