Ranallo’s NXT work to start with tonight’s TV tapings

Mauro Ranallo will be taking the helm of the NXT broadcast booth with the next set of television tapings set for today. The first NXT show with his voice will be on Wednesday on the WWE Network.

Ranallo will be replacing Todd Phillips on the broadcast and will be joined by Nigel McGuinness and Percy Watson as his color commentators. This will be Ranallo’s first work for NXT.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer said that talks between the company and Ranallo to return in some capacity started sometime in late April but a new deal was only finalized a few weeks ago.

The contract Ranallo was on was set to expire in August and his new job in NXT saw a new multi-year deal that has nothing to do with his previous contract. Ranallo will be exclusively doing NXT television tapings and Takeover shows for WWE, which means much less travel for him and more opportunity to do outside work.
