Raw faces big competition from night one of Democratic National Convention tonight

While there will no Titan Games tonight on NBC in direct competition with Raw, it will not be an easy night for WWE to retain viewers as Democratic National Convention kicks off tonight and usually, political debates and conventions eats away WWE’s biggest audience – the over 50s.

The first hour of Raw will not face the convention, although news channels will be in full force covering the event. But the real problems start at 9PM where speakers Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Catherine Cortez Mastro, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Representative Jim Clyburn, Representative Gwen Moore, and Senator Doug Jones will appear. Then at 10PM, an even bigger problem comes around with keynote speeches from Senator Bernie Sanders and former First Lady Michelle Obama.

The major broadcast networks – ABC, CBS and NBC – will be carrying the 10PM to 11PM broadcast live while cable news channels – like CNN and MSNBC – will air the two-hour nightly convention in full.

Raw has faced some tough months during the pandemic in terms of keeping viewers, going from an average of 2.2 million viewers every week from January to mid-March to sinking to an average of 1.8 million viewers from mid-March onward, hitting record lows along the way.
