Roman Reigns injured in opening minutes of SummerSlam main event

Dave Meltzer of the Observer is reporting that Roman Reigns got injured in the opening minutes of the main event match at SummerSlam and worked the rest of the match hurt.

It’s believed that Reigns got hurt when Jey went for a suicide dive and landed on Roman’s back/side while Roman was still not on his feet. Reigns looked in visible pain and replays show that he uttered something to Jey after the move. Reigns kept holding his side and was then driven through the steel steps. A referee then immediately checked on Reigns.

Despite his injury, the main event match dragged to 36 minutes and Reigns completed the match as expected.

The Tribal Chief will now be on Smackdown this Friday where he will participate in a “Hail to the Chief” segment.

His SummerSlam match was his first WWE Undisputed Universal title defense on television since WrestleMania 39 against Cody Rhodes.
