Universal champion Roman Reigns missed the Day 1 pay-per-view due to testing positive for coronavirus and his match against Brock Lesnar was obviously postponed.
Reigns, who missed most of 2020 because of the pandemic and his high-risk status as a cancer survivor, returned at SummerSlam when the company moved to the ThunderDome and has been present at every show ever since. Reigns, and several other top talent, missed last weekend’s live events because some of them contracted COVID-19 and some of them were left home as a precaution to save Day 1.
A couple of hours before the show started last night, Reigns tweeted, “I yearn to perform tonight at #WWEDay1 to defend my Universal Championship. However, unfortunately, earlier today I tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the proper protocols I am unable to compete as originally scheduled. I look forward to returning to action as soon as possible.”
WWE issued a quick press release announcing that Brock Lesnar will instead be added to the WWE title match, changing it to a fatal five-way match.
