In a wide-ranging interview with Ariel Helwani for BT Sport, Universal champion Roman Reigns took what is considered a dig at both CM Punk and Jon Moxley even though the tone of his voice was somewhat different and possibly didn’t mean it to sound like he’s taking a cheap shot at any of them.
Punk came up in the discussion when Helwani asked about part-timers coming to WWE and steal to spotlight in a main event so to speak from those who have been working hard full time. During his program with The Rock, Punk was very vocal about a part-time Johnson coming and taking the title off of him at the Rumble.
“Those statements are coming from bitter people, you know, who possibly thought they were better than they really were,” Reigns told Helwani. “When it comes down to it, CM Punk was not as good or as over as a John Cena. Wasn’t as good or as over and moved the needle like The Rock. It just wasn’t what it was.”
With both Goldberg and Cena in the top two matches of SummerSlam, Reigns did not have anything bad to say about any of them and said he won’t complain either.
“I’m just going to capitalize on him being here and everything that he brings with that. That’s my goal. That’s the whole gimmick to me. This is John Cena. Why wouldn’t I want to be in the ring with him?” Reigns asked. “Why wouldn’t I want him to come to me? This is the biggest movie star of the Summer right now. He came to me. He came to Roman Reigns. He wanted to be in the ring with me. So, I’m not going to complain about that.”
Meanwhile, shifting gears to former fellow Shield member Jon Moxley, Reigns said that he thinks he’s happy at AEW, “but if he could’ve been the man here, he would’ve been the man here.”
