Ryback out of Battleground PPV due to staph infection

Intercontinental champion Ryback has been taken off this Sunday’s Battleground pay-per-view due to an injury. The WWE.COM website said that the champ is off all events this weekend and did not specify what happened.

However on his Twitter account, Ryback wrote that on Tuesday morning after Raw he woke up with a severe staph infection in his right knee. He was taken to hospital and given antibiotics apart from having 90cc of fluid drained out of his knee over 24 hours.

“We caught it in time thanks to the great WWE medical team and I will make a full recovery,” Ryback wrote. He noted that he will be kept in the hospital for several days which will prevent him from defending the Intercontinental title on Sunday.

Ryback apologized to his fans and to WWE and said he’ll be back soon.
