Shane McMahon to referee U.S. title match at SummerSlam

Kevin Owens will get another shot at the United States title after losing unfairly to AJ Styles last night on Smackdown.

Styles pinned Owens but Owens’ shoulder was not on the mat, with referee Mike Chioda unable to see it after he was punched in the face by mistake just seconds earlier.

Following the match, Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon told Chioda he made a bad call and granted Owens a rematch at SummerSlam. Owens requested a referee with two good eyes so Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan appointed McMahon as the special guest referee.

The decision, as expected, did not go down well with Owens, who showed his frustration by pushing down things in the backstage area.
