Shirai and Ripley on a collision course in NXT

NXT Women’s champion Io Shirai and former champion Rhea Ripley are on a collision course after Shirai challenged Ripley during NXT on USA Network yesterday and Ripley accepted.

The two were part of the triple threat match at NXT Takeover: In Your House which also included Charlotte Flair. Shirai won that match – and the title from Flair – in June, a match which was the last one for Flair in NXT.

Apart from one match on the May 13 episode of NXT, Shirai and Ripley did not wrestle each other on television. That match finished as a no contest after just seven minutes. The two, however, have teamed up several times to take on other tag teams on NXT and wrestled each other at non-televised live events.

There’s an NXT Takeover rumored to be taking place in December so this match could take place on that show. There’s no Takeover with the Survivor Series weekend this year which is usually the WarGames one.
