Simone Johnson, the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, held her first sit-down interview for WWE, hosted by Cathy Kelley.
Johnson said it was her grandmother who actually got her into professional wrestling as she used to show her old WWE home videos, from the 80s to the Attitude Era, and all the way to now. She said she loved wrestling for as long as she can remember and feels like a 10-year-old kid again.
Simone noted that the first time she saw her father wrestle live was at WrestleMania 28 when she was just 10 years old and got in the ring the first time the next year prior to WrestleMania 29. She said that her parents have been very supportive of her being in the wrestling business and revealed that The Rock actually went down to the WWE Performance Center for a day to see the culture of the WWE PC and held a training session with all the students.
Asked about the pressure of being the first-ever fourth generation Superstar, Simone said, “I do feel pressure, but I know that at the end of the day it’s something that it was always going to be there so I know it’s up to me to take that pressure and use it to motivate myself.”
She said that the Performance Center is great because everyone gets to learn from some of the best coaches in the world as well as learn from each other and while wrestling is an individual sport, at the PC everyone is a team and everyone is so driven to be a success.
While training full time at the PC, Simone is also continuing her education so will be juggling both training and school work at the same time. She said her parents always wanted her to go to college and she always knew that she had to figure out a way to make it work and make them proud. Simone is learning entertainment management, which is a great topic considering the industry she is in!
