Smackdown Tag Team title tournament kicks off

Smackdown’s tag team division finally got its own Tag Team titles and a tournament was announced last night on the show to crown the new Smackdown Tag Team champions. The winners of the tournament will be revealed at the Backlash pay-per-view, the Smackdown-only event taking place on September 11 exclusively on the WWE Network.

The Tag Team titles feature the same design as the WWE Tag Team titles however there is a blue leather strap and silver plates rather than copper or bronze looking ones.

In the first two matches, held yesterday on the show, American Alpha defeated Breezango and The Usos defeated The Ascension to advance in the tournament. More tournament matches will be held next week and Heath Slater has teamed up with Rhyno to enter the tournament with the stipulation being that if they win the tournament, Slater will finally get a contract on the blue brand.
