The New Day add the NXT Tag Team titles to their collection

It’s a new day in NXT, yes it is! Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods became the new NXT Tag Team champions last night at Deadline, defeating the British team of Pretty Deadly for their first run with the NXT gold.

Kofi and Xavier made a surprise appearance on NXT earlier this week and challenged the tag team champions to a match for the titles. The win adds to the already-impressive record that The New Day has when it comes to Tag Team titles in WWE.

With this win, Kofi Kingston becomes a 15-time tag team champion, winning the Raw Tag Team titles six times, the Smackdown Tag Team titles seven times, the World Tag Team titles once, and now the NXT Tag Team titles.

Woods is not far behind, with 12 title reigns to his name, four as Raw Tag Team champion, seven as Smackdown Tag Team champion, and now NXT Tag Team champion.

The New Day become the 24th different team to hold the NXT Tag Team titles, ending Pretty Deadly’s 97-day reign as champions.
