Tommaso Ciampa becomes the new NXT champion

A new NXT champion was crowned last night on the NXT television show on the WWE Network with Tommaso Ciampa defeating Aleister Black for his first solo title win in the company.

The match had an interference from Ciampa’s former tag team partner and arch rival Johnny Gargano, who came in and superkicked Ciampa and tried to take the title away from his hands, only to inadvertently hit Aleister Black on the backswing.

Ciampa then threw Gargano out of the ring and hit a double-underhook facebuster on Black as the referee, who moments earlier had a bump, came back to his senses for the three count.

The man known as the Psycho Killer has been signed to a WWE deal since 2016 and is the only second NXT star to hold the NXT title and the NXT Tag Team title.

Black held the title for three months, having won it at NXT Takeover: New Orleans from Andrade “Cien” Almas.
