In the first episode of the two-part season finale, the Divas took a post-WrestleMania girl’s trip to Hawaii. The trip’s attendees were Natalya, Carmella, Sonya Deville, her girlfriend Ariana, Liv Morgan, and special surprise guests The Bella Twins.
As is usual with Diva vacations, there was plenty of drama to go around. It began before the trip even got off the ground. Naomi was also invited on the trip, but had said that she would be late. However, during this episode, she never once contacted her friends to say when she would be coming…nor did she ever show up. It appeared as though she hadn’t planned on showing up at all. If this was the case though, why wouldn’t she just tell the women she wasn’t coming? Naomi’s absence wasn’t the only cause for concern in this episode. The presence of Sonya’s girlfriend was another sticking point for some of the Divas.
Sonya hadn’t informed the others that her girlfriend would be coming, this was important because the Divas hadn’t planned on an extra guest, and were therefore unprepared for Arianna’s arrival, lacking extra drinking glasses and other stuff.
Furthermore, none of the other women had brought their partners, and the trip was meant to be a fun bonding experience between co-workers, without the pressure of relationship drama. Also, Sonya behaved differently due to her girlfriend’s presence. For example, she refused to participate in a group hula dancing lesson saying that she felt stupid. She then stormed off in a huff.
This caused Natalya to become offended as she had spent money for the lessons. While I understand why Natalya was upset, I also feel that she should have known that Sonya wouldn’t enjoy the dancing. In a previous episode, we learned that Sonya is uncomfortable with anything feminine. So, naturally, she would feel awkward performing dance moves in front of her girlfriend.
However, her reaction seemed a tad over the top. Afterwards, Natalya accused Sonya of ruining everyone’s trip with her negative attitude. So Sonya almost left the trip, but was in the end, talked into staying.
Perhaps, this means more drama on the finale of Total Divas!
