WWE draft to be held on live Smackdown on July 19

WWE today announced that a draft will be held on the first live Smackdown on USA Network on July 19, taking place from Worcester, Massachusetts.

This will be the first time that the draft will be held on Smackdown as previous drafts were always held on Monday Night Raw. The move will try to solidify the blue brand as equally important as its red counterpart.

The press release, titled WWE’s Destiny Live on Smackdown, stated that the draft will be conducted by respective General Managers, GMs which have still yet to be chosen.

“This is an exciting new era for WWE in which we will yet again reinvent ourselves by creating a second night of compelling live television,” said Kevin Dunn, WWE’s Executive Producer.

“We’re already hearing the excitement among WWE fans for Smackdown’s new live format, and our audiences are eagerly anticipating the live draft and what it means for their favorite Superstars,” added Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.
