WWE holding two-day tryout at IMG Academy in Florida this week

WWE is holding a two-day tryout on Wednesday and Thursday at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, according to Sports Illustrated. WWE is expecting up to 35 athletes participating in this latest tryout.

“There are countless examples of top talent that came into the business via college sports, but there hasn’t always been a system built out,” WWE’s Head of Talent Operations and Strategy James Kimball told SI. “That’s what we’re trying to create here, a true talent development pathway into WWE for college athletes.”

Kimball said that the company is just “scratching the surface” when it comes to recruiting college athletes and they’ve been working on this for a year, and will take years to master.

“We’re adding quality and depth, and the work is just starting with college athletes nationwide,” he continued, noting that WWE wants to have a clear schedule and calendar in place as many college athletes have many options.

“We’re building. This a long-term investment strategy, and we’re all really excited about the potential,” Kimball concluded.

WWE has two more tryouts planned after this one so far, one in Nigeria in February and one in Los Angeles during WrestleMania week.
