Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that WWE is trying to get Steve Austin back in the ring for a match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38.
Owens is having a little bit of a feud with the state of Texas after first he said he loved the state when he was told that he might not even be part of WrestleMania but then admitted he lied and said that he hated Texas. With Austin being from Texas and WrestleMania being in Texas, it’s easy to see where this is going but it all depends on the WWE Hall of Famer and if he wants to come out of retirement.
The Rattlesnake has not wrestled since WrestleMania 19 back in 2003, losing his final match against The Rock. Since then, he made tons of appearances for WWE throughout the years but never officially wrestled again. The former WWE champion had several neck and knee issues leading up to his retirement and it will take a lot for the now 57-year-old to lace up his wrestling boots one more time.
He last appeared at a WrestleMania in 2016 at WrestleMania 32 at the AT&T Stadium, delivering a few stunners to Rusev, King Barrett, and Xavier Woods. Austin had been in the plans to appear at this year’s WrestleMania for a while but in what capacity was the big question.
Austin can be currently seen hosting the Broken Skull Sessions on the WWE Network, with the newest episode dropping this Friday with Ron Simmons.
